To Bag or not to Bag?

Hi I'm new to the forum and just purchased a 92 W250 with 143k and bone stock. My goals for the truck are to put a cabover and drive to Central/South America. I want to raise it and I like the idea of Bags but are they less reliable than a regular lift? What are the pros and cons? Also any suggestions on rim/tire setup for mostly sand would be a great help?
Also does anyone have any good shops in and around Sacramento that can do the job well?
Cheers
Lonepine

Can you get repairs done if one or more bags are damaged? Maybe take a spare or two along with you.

I have had air lift bags on my truck for 20 years with no problem. They are good for evening out the load, my cab over is heavier on 1 side. I would also recommend a sway bar it make a big difference on windy roads. As for sand, be careful, these trucks are really heavy in the front end and with a camper can get stuck really easy. Pop up campers are better for driving but less comfortable then full campers. I have traveled with my 1991 10 1/2 foot Northland in Mexico alot with minimal problems. Just remember Mas Despacio, Mañana y gozar.

My buddy swears by this shop in Sacramento.
They've even got a picture of a first gen on their homepage.

To Bag or not

Thanks for the suggestions. I especially like the idea of evening the load.
@ eljefedavies I'm thinking of getting a Bigfoot 1500 9.5 or a Northernlite 9.5. They are a bit lighter than most cabovers. What do you think about these and do you have any suggestions on tires that are more geared for sand?
THanks

My truck is pretty much a pavement queen with some dirt roads for short distances. The campers are very top heavy so any serious dirt has scared me. I use Michelin mud and snow tires 285/75/16, due to living in a snowy area. I am not up on the new campers so I cannot give you any advise. I know if I was looking for a setup that was going to see a lot of beach action I would go with a lighter gas truck and a pop up camper. The one thing I do know is that nothing is perfect. You have to make a list of pros and cons and be willing to make sacrifices. Good luck .....
