93 D250 mileage has dropped. New to diesels
Hey guys, I've had my truck for three years now. I must confess I haven't learned as much as I should of by now. I am a gear head, but the Harley's and building big block Chevy's takes most of my mental capacity. I did purchase about 50 lbs of OE manuals to read. Everything I could find on my truck.
My mileage has dropped. I see more smoke at start up then before. My truck was hopped up by the previous owner, and I believe it to be a moderate amount. It was well taken care of. 3200 govenor spring, upgraded turbo(older Banks stuff), nothing crazy, fuel screw adjustment, and Pac brake.
Any ideas where to start? Anything obvious? Recomended service?

I asked a mod to move it to first gen trucks.
I would start by checking for air in fuel, (this leads to lazy injection, bad running and bad mileage), then change fuel filter and air filter.
If that does not help- pop-check the injectors.

I already changed fuel filter and air filter. It runs fine. I can't tell any difference. I wonder if the fuel screw came loose and moved in the wrong direction? I'll search the forums for what pop check means.

What kind of mileage on the motor? Could be tired injectors, and “pop test” basically means the company puts the injector in a machine and load it with fuel pressure and they record when the injector “pops” and allows the fuel to be released from the injector.

I believe fairly new injectors 3-5 years old. Bosh 194 is what the previous owner told me. Truck is low miles and pretty clean 170k, maybe I'll have to take to the shop.

Try disconnecting the KSB power wire, if the AIT sensor has gone bad then the ksb could be on all the time and you will have too much advance timing and you could loose a bit of power and mileage.
