Bad Steering Box?

I have been tying to determine what exactly has been causing the play in my steering. It appears everything is tight in the front end and i have a borgeson shaft. Its kinda hard to tell in the video below but should there be more output movement from the box? Is this box also no good? Roughly there is 1/4" turn of the input shaft before there is movement from output.

Video^^

I am not sure but that dosent seem like alot to me. There is an adjustment that lets you take up some play in the box. I do know that if you put it to tight it will ruin the box

Power steering boxes tend to be sloppy with out pressure to them. Try doing the same thing but with the engine running. If its still sloppy then try adjusting it. Mine is about shot. I adjusted mine and it was fine for about 2 weeks and it came back.

Adjustment is easy! On the top of the box you'll see a set screw and jam nut. Break the jam nut loose and run the set screw in until it stops. Then back it out an 1/8 to a 1/4 of a turn. If it's still pretty sloppy after that, then it's a good chance the box is giving up.

I adjusted it before the video forgot to mention that. I went about 1/2 a turn. And there is no noticeable difference with it running.

Sounds like a typical steering gear to me. Even the new ones I get from napa are never tight. I replace the one on my truck about every two years due to slop. Adjusting them never really does any good for me.

Ive been told to add stabilizers to help the gears survive with my 15.5 tires. Just haven't gotten around to it.

There is another adjustment. To properly set it, you are supposed to have it on the bench and all that. You might try tightening it up a LITTLE at at time and try it, if you are gonna replace it anyway.

I have been told this is the critical one on our boxes.

Watch the input shaft real close while turning it back and forth just enough to use up the free play. If it appears to be "threading" in and out, it needs tighened up.

I also did that adjustment. There is another link floating around here that i went by, it was not as detailed as that one. I guess I am just expecting to much, i guess it will just never steer as tight as newer vehicles.
