Camper tie downs

Just getting started. For the rear, I was thinking I could just slide it in there but then realized that the bumper will have to come off . It's going to be fun breaking the rusted up bolts loose. Cardboard template will be 1/4" plate that will be bolted to the very rusty hitch with 3, 3/8" grade 8 bolts each side.

The front tie point will be below the rear cab mount with a hole through a rocker protector for the removable anchor. I will be splitting 3" square tubing to create 3"x1 1/2" channel for the rocker protector that will run from behind the front tire to rear of the cab. Advice appreciated, usually!

That truck doesn’t have a single rusted bolt judging by the pictures!

That is what I was seeing as well.

The rusted bolts I see often have the head on them that looks like a crusty Milkdud not a bolt head.
Regardless nice work on the tie downs.

Sheesh, I guess I'll have to get more light on the frame next time! No, the rust isn't midwest or east coast severe.

What the picture doesn't show is the solid rust patina hood and top with failing clear coat working it's way down the sides!

Is there any difference between welding hot rolled and cold rolled steel?

Patina and clear coat problems?!?! You California crybabies!!
It's all rot holes and rust piles here (PA) my friend!

There IS a difference between cold and hot rolled steel. Here's a link:

Some more progress. Man I am slow! I'm a wood butcher not a steel fabricator.
I had to do a lot of grinding on the welds. I have the strength down, just not the pretty. A drill press would be real nice to have. I got a set of Milwaukee Red Helix bits, they work real good.
