auto trans question
so i finally have my trans back together and i got the overdrice unit bolted on. the question i have is as follows
when i shift the linkage on the side of the trans through P R N D etc it seem really stiff. i talked to my brother whos a mechaninc and he said it could be 2 things, it could be becasue it doesnt have fluid in it and everything dry, or beasue when my dad and i reinstalled the valve body there might have been a washer that went between the case of the trans and lever inside to cycle P R N D.
does anyone know of theres some kind of washer to go in there? i checkd the online service manual i printed and it didnt say anything or show anything about one but then again it really wasnt specific in that area at all

Just put it together. Just remember there is alot of leverage that goes into it when you pull the shifter on the column. First it twists which pulls the rod up in the engine compartment then it pulls or pushes the longer linkage that goes back to the trans. I think you will be fine.
There is supposed to be no washer in that location.
One bit of advice though. When you fill the trans up and fire the truck up have it sitting on jack stands. If by some chance the manual valve is not indexed to the linkage it wont take off on you.

The only washer involved with the rooster comb is the one that goes over the seal between the rooster comb and the throttle shaft, retained by an e clip, this is what sticks up out of the tranny and the shift lever bolts (squeezes actually) to the rooster comb and the kickdown apply lever bolts to the throttles shaft.
