Argh! Is my trans shot? Getrag 360 stuck in 5th
So, I’ve been limping along on what I thought was a bad clutch (not fully disengaging), and then my shift over broke! I Jerry rigged a splint if you will and was limping it home. Now is solidly stuck in 5th. Can’t get it out to save my life. I’m wondering if I’m dealing with a bad shift tower or a whole crapped out tranny. I’ve only got about 100 miles on the truck myself, so I have no idea how long this has been this way.
I’ve got to figure out what to order for parts so I can get back on the road soon. My old 87 d250 gasser finally gave up the ghost last week and this is all I have for a truck at the moment.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Don't have an answer for you, but am curious. How far below the fill mark is the oil in the transmission? What color is the oil?

My trans locked in 5th one time started making internal pressure and would blow/vent pressure through the shift boot. I drove from Memphis to Kansas with only 5th gear. The trans was fried.

you can pull the snap ring that holds the shifter in place under the boot and recenter the shift rail and put the shifter back in. it is most likely worn and jumped the shift gate
