Just out of curiosity; anyone with Stan's 4" turbo back exhaust system - paint their exhaust? I know the pipe is alumnizied, so maybe it's a waste of time and paint?

I live in the rustbelt (north east IL), and thought that maybe I could add a few years to the exhaust system, by painting it? I guess without getting paint in the inside of the exhaust as well, just painting the outside would be a waste? I used Bill Hirsh's high temp paint on my exhaust manifold (good to 1500 degrees), and am pleased with the results! I would probably go with the Hirsh paint on the exhaust pipes as well.

 

Would about engine enamel?? like chevy orange or that hotrod green?!. thatd be cool. Engine enamel paint in spray can is usually good for 1200 degrees.

 

It's been my understanding that with the OEM maximum EGT of 1200*F, followed by the typical 300*F drop across the turbocharger, leaves approximately 900*F gases in the down-pipe.

My entire exhaust system is satin black.

 

I live in the rust belt, too. Really wanted 5" stainless exhaust, but no such thing for a 1st Gen. Had to settle for aluminized. With all the soot on the inside and good paint on any welds or joints on the outside, I think it will last atleast 5 years.

I got some 1000* aluminum paint at NAPA, specificaly for exhaust. About $12 a can.

I'd say go for it, can't hurt anything.

 

Even aluminized exhaust lasts a long time on a diesel. The exhaust is very dry compared to a gasser so it does not rot from the inside so fast. Mine still looks aluminized after 5 years, and the truck is not garaged.

 

If I'm remembering right,Stan's offers a 4dp 5 the rest of the way in stainless.

 

another satin black here, altho mine came from rip. Like others said, IMO paint is`nt needed (at least by me) as the original system looked fine as I sawzalled onto the floor. the paint makes a little neater tho.

 

I painted mine flat black for the stealth look. No need to advertise. I also painted the wheels on one side red and the other side black. It's been a year and so far only three people have said anything.

 

Thanks for all the input on the exhaust paint! If I get a chance; I may spray bomb the exhaust, with the Bill Hirsch paint I mentioned. TP tools in Ohio carries it. His silver paint is good up to 2000 degree's - at least that what it says in the TP catalog?
