Last owner decided to paint the manifold areas white, and it looks now. What is the best high temp paint out there?

 

VHT makes a 'flameproof' paint, good up to 1500*, should work good for manifold. You can get it through Summit I know.

 

Spray graphite lasts a couple months and looks like Cummins gray. Put it on with the engine cold and let it sit a couple hours before driving.

 

I painted mine with hi temp engine paint but I can't prove it now.

 

I have a classic car and used POR-15 manifold grey on the exhaust manifolds. The results turned out awesome! The color is a very gun-metal looking grey. The paint brushes right on and cures completely once the manifold is installed and reaches 300*F. I would recommend the stuff to anyone doing exhaust manifolds. The paint is good up to 1500*F I believe.

 

We did the stock manifolds on a Chevy 350 gasser with silver POR and before long they looked like hammered doodoo. I imagine a diesel manifold gets even hotter.

 

I have wondered the same thing about painting, since every one I have seen looks like they came out of the Titanic's boiler room (the sea floor )

What about Caliper paint, or powder coat?

 

Actually, diesels run cooler than gassers.

I would just let it burn off. I know, it looks bad, but you shouldnt have to raise your hood that often, should you?

My turbo was painted when I got it. exhaust housing looks like it was once silver or white; impellar was some kind of queer metallic baby blue. A can of stripper made it presentable to go under my hood.

Yikes - somebody actually painted the impeller?! That just ain't natural.

 

Not the blades, just the housing. The part that is black in stock form.

I used a black high temp powder coat on mine... Its lasted about 30k now.. Little faded but not bad.

 

My experiences with any kind of "hi-heat" paint have been rather dis-appointing.

I think it is plain old paint in a different can.
