Anybody Painted Their '93 Grill Black?
Anybody Painted Their '93 Grill Black?
I'm thinking of painting the grill on my crewcab. Probably a shade of flat black. Any recommendations on paint I should use or prep? The grill's are plastic, right? Will it take paint and survive rock strikes?
I'd suggest stripping the so called chrome off of it. The problem with them grilles is that the chrome finish will lift and peel off. If you stripped it off then painted just the plastic than it shouldn't lift, afraid if you just spray over the chrome clad it'll lift. My $.02

I painted the grill on my 86 because the chrome was flaking. I scuffed what chrome was left with some 1000 grit and feathered the edges where it was lifting. All told I about removed all the chrome via sanding as there was mostly the copper underlayment showing on about 80-90% of the grill. Then I just degreased and primed/painted as normal. It has held up to this day without flaking or peeling but the prep work was alot. And the 93 grill has ALOT more chrome to scuff due to the design differences of the two grills but I would consider doing it to my truck, esp if it was going to look good...and personally I think a black grill on your rig would look TOTALLY Bad ****
ya i think all blakc would look pretty good. Id probably prefer the gloss black that the truck is and I would paint that beastly bumper too while you were at it that way the whole truck is the same color.
i would think you could get a ramcharger grille that was painted from the factory. keep the chrome and you can swap back and forth. painted grille should be available from aftermarket body suppliers.
