I am curious about the position of the wastegate actuator. I am considering the 12 for my automatic truck. Do you have to lose the heat shield from the down pipe when it gets moved back?

You guys with auto's who slide that downpipe back , want to check the coolant line coming out of the back of the heat exchanger. I helped a buddy put a 12cm WG on his 93 this past weekend , and the downpipe hit that coolant line , and it was rusty enough to spring a leak. Even if yours isn't that rusty , make sure it doesn;t touch , it could chaff a hole in there.

Here's my setup with a WH1C. Seems pretty typical.

My 5ver weighs in at about 10k. I don't move it too often, but the 12cm brought temps way down compared to the factory 18.5. While the 12cm can and will become restrictive, this is only true when pushing for 300+ RWHP. As long as you're not severely over-fueled, switching to a 12cm will make any 1st gen more friendly to drive. The only instance this is not entirely true is if you like to run fast down the highway. Most of my driving/towing is under 65mph, where I already run 10 psi. Once I hit 75, you can feel the 12cm bottleneck the business just a bit.

What years have the housings in the pics? Some I have seen have an elbow at the rear.

The WG actuator bolts to the housing with a long bracket. The rod coming from the diaphram then connects to the WG mechanism. For some reason they engineered it to stick out in the breeze instead of being tucked in neatly next to the engine. Looks sort of weird to me but that's me.

2nd Gen 12 valves have what you are looking for. The 24 valve trucks have the cast elbow on the turbo, plus the wastegate actuator is mounted to the compressor housing.
