Another wiring problem.

I just got my lights all working again not even 5 days ago and friday morning I realize that i have no brake lights unless i put on all my other lights, then that afternoon after it sat for 8 hours I tried to turn on my lights and nothing. I still have reverse lights and turn signals but nothing else. I have to drive back to va tuesday from pa and I need my brake lights at the very least. Any ideas would be very helpful.

What electrical work have you done on it recently?
Have you checked the wiring harness under the dash for scorching along with the headlight switch? If the switch has heated up, it can melt the insulation on the harness and you may have a short there
Also, check the ground at the brake lights, it can get worn/loose.

all the lights messed up at once together besides the turn signals. I replaced to connectors for the wires going to the headlight switch, the four slip on connector that go onto the "blades" on the switch.

Ok, just read a few of the other posts about your electrical nightmares!
If you have replaced the headlight switch and the connector to it, and have acertained that the harness is good, you'll need to field test the circuit.
Get out the ol' test light and start chasing the wiring from the brake light switch under the dash( which I'll assume you have checked?) through the harness back to the lights. Look for where you loose power. But FIRST, check the ground! about 80% of all auto-elec problems are with grounding!!

BTW when you check that brake light switch, it should have a "feed" wire that is cold-keyed "hot" ( it will have power to it regardless of whether the truck ignition is on or not)
It is basically a push button style switch that closes the circuit when you depress the pedal. If it is bad, or not in its proper place, you will have no brake lights.
From what you described however, it sounds like it was rewired incorrectly, only receiving power when the headlight switch is on. Check this part of your wiring job, you may have mistaken the feed wire to it as part of the switch harness.

Ok, then I am stumped..

I'd realy recommend checking that brake light switch tho, it sounds like that's where the problem is, if its not the ground at the light assembly

I would check the grounds first on the truck, and then start at the brake light switch...then the headlight switch

I hope this isn't too late. Just for your trip home you can wire power from your battery to the brake light switch. I would think a 5 amp fuse would be sufficient at the most a 10 amp fuse. This would at least get you home. Just my two cents, Mike.
