I have searched and read all the odometer posts on the 1st generation forum. Judging from the symptoms in other posts, I feel pretty certain that the plastic gear is gone in my '92. My question... how hard is the speedometer to get out? Does it come out from the top or do I have to go up under the dash? I would like to have an idea of the correct way to tackle this thing before I start.

You pull the cluster bezel (several screws under the top lip of the dash, plus one above the radio), then the instrument cluster. No headstand needed.
