Another BAD Voltage Regulator

Another site selling an Adjustable Solid State Regulator
This site aparently sells the same C8313 regulator that is in post #5, but for a little less money. Easy for me to say about someone else's money, but I think it would be well worth the $27! (I have an internally regulated Leece Neville alternator on my truck, so I can't try it out for you. I also don't have anything against the member who left post 5 -- I think he gets why I don't call him by "name".)

Got the GENUINE MOPAR VR today and installed it. The voltage shows 14.1 volts however, NOT the 13.5 volts as advertised. I wonder if the pulsating of the 3 phase alternator voltage is somehow fooling the digital voltmeters. I'll have to get my Tripplett analog meter on it and see what it reads. The Analog meter will show R.M.S. voltage while the digitals may be showing peak voltage.
The O'Reilly Chicom VR all showed 14.7 volts (digital VOM) until they crapped out.
Anyone have any information on this phenomenon.

ECM regulates it,

You can find most of your answers regarding the alternators on Post # 7 in the FAQ

I got my Tripplett VOM out and carefully measured the voltage on the battery. I connected my digital VOM to the battery at the same time. The Tripplett read 13.6 V while the digital meter read 14.1 V. So I think that confirms my suspicion that the cheap digital meters measure more of the peak voltage while the analog reads the R.M.S or average voltage which is more correct.
Anyway, hopefully it will stay fixed for more than 3 months with the Genuine MOPAR which has MADE IN USA stamped on it!

he's got it grounded to the VR to Alternator to the negative battery.
run a ground wire from the battery to one of the mounting bolts on the VR, then another wire (if you already don't have one) from the negative to the alternator. This will ensure that the VR is grounded directly to the negative terminal, and so is the alternator.
I have a 4-0 wire that runs from my battery to the alternator, per Jim Lane years ago.
He said if you 're losing ground to the VR, it will send the numbers through the roof.

I put a ground wire from the VR to the battery the first time this thing started giving me trouble. The wiring from the Alternator + to the battery + is stock because I wanted the ammeter to read properly. Part of the wiring is the shunt for the ammeter. It was getting hot when the previous VR crapped out and pegged the ammeter. I added a digital voltmeter under the dash a while back and it agrees with my digital VOM.
I'm keeping my eye on it to make sure it keeps working properly. Unfortunately I don't drive much lately because of my health. Mostly to the doctors and labs for tests.
