Thanks for sharing, Flash ha haha Yea, I'm Mr. diesel dummy here, but I think it's called an aftercooler? to increase the charge density of the incoming air forced by the turbo? I can't imagine it would have much effect on EGT's....? Intercooler/Aftercooler I get confused but maybe it would be better to increase density before induction into turbo? But then again that makes the turbo work harder, hmmmm!

Harder, but more efficient.........Kinda like going from 7000 feet(where i live ) to a much low elevation, say 2000 feet.
the turbo would have to work harder, to pull the much densor or compact air in but the boost would be the same!

Same boost levels, but cooler air equales more usable are per pound of boost!

I thought I had seen a pic of one b4 on ebay or on here. I'll check into a particular scrap yard for boats that I know of. I don't know if they'll have anything that big considering I'm in the middle of Kansas
Thanks Wanna, I was thinking I would need the injection lines too. Would the cooler even fit under the hood?

the injector lines are one of the big reasons i started looking for other options than the cummins version. Loch was very helpful by beating me to the idea and modling what i was thinking into something that would work and not require the lines. heck for the price of the lines alone you could pick up something like the one i posted form ebay. make the custom intake pipes so it sits in the crossover and then you can still mount water meth downstream if you want!

Well technicly its a charge air cooler, but cooling it before the turbo isnt going work much if any. The turbo is what generates the heat.

Yes. I saw a non-ic Dodge on Ebay a couple years ago that had one on there. Looked slick.

Thumbs up

For drag racing, tractor pulling exc. this setup would be the most efficient set up, for cooling the intake air charge.......I would think

I had a thought Since a marine scrapyard is hard to come by out here, I could have better luck finding one from a tractor. I know a lot of combines use the 8.3 cummins and a some have water coolers. Any chance that the 8.3 manifold plate is the same size as the 5.9? Of course now I still need the injector lines.... I'll look for some 5.9 apps too in smaller tractors cuz there's obviously tons of those. Not sure if any have the coolers though. Thoughts? Knowledge? Thanks
Dan

Just bumpin the thread.... Anybody know if the 8.3 cummins water cooler will fit on a 5.9 manifold? And if the injector lines are roughly the same size? Any more input is greatly appreciated! Excellent replies so far, good ideas!

Probly not. Most likely the 8.3 will have a p-pump, so the lines won't be any good for you even if they are the same as a 5.9 w/p-pump.
