Did cummins make stiffer springs for our AFC's (the spring on the star wheel)? In my mind, a stiffer spring would help my smoke.

If they did make a stiffer one, does anyone have a part number?

In short yes there are stiffer springs but many say they are not stiff enough. I know Eric at The hungry diesel has a few different springs, give him a shout (RCcummins on here and 1stgen).

 

1972Redneck I have found a wide assortment of springs at hardware stores. One place I found the most was at an ACE hardware, they had probably 5 of those 10 bin storage bins full of springs of all kinds. Hundreds of various springs. Possibly take your spring into such a place and compare it to what they have. Good luck!!

 

A local fuel injection shop told me that there are only 3 specific Bosch springs for the AFC. Non i/c has green/black, i/c has pink/black. Non i/c being the stiffest of those 2. There is a plain, silver spring that can be found that is said to be the stiffest of all 3. I would see if your local fuel injection shop has some lying around.

Although, I do believe some people have made their own. I have no idea who though.

 

I have the silver spring and my seat of the pants index finger tester says its no stiffer than the non-ic spring. The silver spring was in my spare pump.

 

I put a valve in my AFC line to fine-tune the airflow.
