AC issues

My compressor was working but there was no apparent movement of refrigerant so I replaced the expansion valve.

The system held a vacuum just fine but when I went to recharge the system equalized with the can at 110 psi on both sides. The compressor wouldn't kick in. When I jumped the relay the compressor spun up and it started pushing oil out of the line fitting at the expansion valve and I did not see an increase in pressure anywhere.

When I stopped the compressor the leak stopped but both sides held 110 psi.

I'm kinda stuck on this one. Any ideas?

Anytime you open the system you should replace the filter/dryer. I may be plugged up and stopping the circulation. Rock Auto has them for cheap. I recommend the Four Seasons brand.

I finally accumulated all of the supplies and parts to convert my A/C back to R12. The R12 was the most expansive part. I got a new Filter/Dryer, Expansion valve and some system flush. I also got the POE oil that is compatible with both R12 and R134. I'm just waiting on cooler days so I can do the job.

Keep us posted on your progress. Hopefully others will chime in with ideas.

Your compressor might be toast. My understanding is that equalized high and low pressures is a failed expansion valve or a failed compressor...Mark
