A518 Cooler lines and fittings
 

I recently installed a 518 behind my 6BT. The trans came with the coolant lines. One runs in front of the pan and connects to the driver side. It has a pin connector on the metal tube. Is this temp?

Second question: the other cooler line was just loose. There is an open fitting on the driver side of the trans behind the OD solenoid.Is this where the other coolant line connects? The cooler line has a piece of rubber hose attached to it but there is not a barb fitting to connect the hose. What type of fitting do I need here? The trans is out of a 92. My 6BT is a 93.

All of this is turning into a 48 Ford F6 cab on a 2003 Dodge frame with a 93 6BT and a 92 A518.

What tire size are you shooting for? I ask as it looks like you plan on cutting the fenders along the tape mark.
Or is my guess incorrect?

Thanks Oliver. I cut the fender this weekend because the F6 body line did'nt work with the cab placement. Tire size likely wont get much bigger than whats there. The trans lines and connections in question are pictured below. Any help is appreciated.

Is the zip tied line routed correctly? What kind of compression fitting do I need? The PO had that beat up hose connected to it? Somehow? What plugs into the front driver side connector? Thanks again for all the schoolin'

That zip tied line should run forward. Some run under the trans to get to the trans heat exchanger bolted to the block and two run to a trans cooler mounted on the core support..

You can see it if you look closely at the pictures T-man posted.

So what connects to the opening I'm pointing to in picture 4?

If I am seeing the pictures right that line should run to the air cooled cooler on the core support, which then runs back to and under the engine between the transmission to the heat exchanger on the passengers side of the block.
From there it runs behind the motor and in front of the transmission to the front line on the trans. with the temp sensor.

I do not have the trans heat exchanger. That makes sense. I also found this you tube video that helps a little.

Picture one is that sweet old truck

Picture 2 is the trans temp sensor that sends signal to ECM. fluid is warm hot enough to allow solenoid to open to allow 4th gear to operate, after Speedo gets to 35mph or so.

Picture 3 is the connector to the 4th gear solenoid in the pan, which operates the valving for 4th gear

Picture 4 is the fitting that leads to the trans cooler up front.

The other fitting, further towards the front in which the tube with the temp sensor in it leads to the trans cooler for the other side of the fluid loop

You can set the trans up to work with pressure switches, that will automatically change into 4th for you. I think there's a thread about it in the FAQ section.

Or if you want to do it manually, you run two wires to that solenoid switch connection on the side of the trans with blue and orange wires.

Run power from the ignition switch to the blue wire, so it's powered anytime the ignition switch is in the on Or run position.

Run a switch from ground at the panel, or battery to the orange wire, and flip that switch, grounding the orange wire, after you get to 35 mph or higher , and 4th gear will function. You just have to remember to switch it off when you're coming to a stop.
