93 Rad. Repairable or just replace?
Well I guess my good luck as about run out..LOL

I just got home and found my front end a little wet along the rad support and under the jack holder. From a preliminary analysis it may be the hose connection to the rad thats cracked or maybe the tank on the passenger side.

The question still stands, is there any point to repair or just replace the whole darn thing?

Thanks guys...Parked and wet... :P

J-eh

Have a radiator shop check it out if its repairable they will pressure check it and clean the cores if needed also...if not most times they can get a cheaper price for a replacement rad

Lil Dog

Take it to a radiator shop and have them recore the radiator. They should be able to tell you if it is worth doing. New is 375.00USD or more now. I had mine done a year or so ago and no problems.

Watch your back when taking out, it is heavy.

JIm

I deal with Radiator Warehouse in MD. I got a new radiator for my wifes Mercedes for like $137 shipped to the house. Big Benz wanted in the $500 range and another place wanted $375. I was a little skeptical at first but when it got to the house, it was an exact replacement. We ordered one for my sons truck at half the cost everyone else wanted and it was a heavier radiator than everyone else had.
800-831-5473
Won't cost you a thing to see what a brand new one would be. I personally don't trust the reworked stuff.
Joel

I am going to get after it here later this week, but I think I will just replace it instead of the recore. I have also heard some not so good stories about re-cores, basically not many shops do it anymore with all the composite stuff in the rads in the new trucks.
Thanks for the input guys, I'll let you know what shakes out.

Lil Dog,
I had a leaky radiator on our 88 Olds and I wanted to purchase a new rad, but the guy at the rad shop said don't get a new one it has plastic tanks on it, you will be happier with the recore and will be about the same price.
---
Al

Well got after it finally.

AFter I drained all 5 gallons of coolant, : I looked in and the rad is spotless inside. So I pulled it out. That was easy man, 2 clips for the shroud and 4 bolts for the rad support and bingo she was out.

The lower outlet was cracked and the tank had a few spider cracks from the fitting. I took it to a rad shop and they guessed what Type of truck it was out of!!! They have had lots of these failures as the tank outlet is not very strong and it was their opinion that it should be silver soldered.

The repair cost me $70 and its up again..

J-eh
