92 in a 77
There are number stampings located on the frame at:
The front wheel arch center on the outside of the frame,
Near the transmission crossmember area outside of the frame,
Near the front spring hanger of the rear axle on the bottom side of the frame.
I'm not sure which ones match the partial VIN number, if any at all. These were the locations found on my crew cab frame after blasting. My 92 donor had numbers stamped at the front wheel arch location on both sides. The rest of the frame was severely corroded so I didn't check it.

I will be doing same thing, but mine is a 78 instead. I'll be keeping the 78's vin but put it on the 92's dash. Yes I removed a VIN tag, but that cab/chassis is a 78 so I figure any numbers on the body/frame should line up if ANYONE ever gave a darn anyway!
If you have receipt or the title to the new cab just go to the tag office and they will issue a new title with the new VIN. It will still be titled as a '93. Did that on a '95 Ford a few years ago. No hassles.
hey-Hey!!!,
I did a cab swap on my first 1991. I was told that the cab was considered the basis of the vehicle and that I'd need to do some paperwork with PennDOT. I passed and just put the original dash in place with the proper VIN showing. I got into no trouble when I wrecked in in MI.
cheers,
Douglas

douglas. So the in penn the cab is considered the basis as in when you done your cab swap you used the original dash as in the one with the cab or the one with the chassis that you was doing the swap on? little confused lol.
I just can't see any real issues if you swap a dash( and its VIN tag ). I'd just put the OE tag in the dash and tell anybody who asked what I did. Same goes with the cab; put a couple of pix in the glove box and treat the officer with a bit ov respect( if they deserve it or not ), and you'll be OK.

Douglas
So if you put a new dash in your truck because it's beat to hell or you add A/C then do you have to retitle it or get an assembled title?
I'm contacting motor vehicle inspections to find out what the laws in iowa are. I'm assuming to do it legally from what i've looked up is if you do a cab swap your going to have to get it inspected and show proof that nothing is stolen and go from there....I'll find out around monday when the office opens and get information from them.
Tennessee DMV- no problem with the four door 1973 (floor rust repair)
showed them the pics and what i was doing. issued tags
they did keep the title to the 92

we used the back 2/3 cab as 1973 and all the doors
vin tag is riveted into the front drivers door

the firewall and dash
CTD and 5 speed are 1992

the frame, rear end/ front end
fenders and grill are 1973

Yup i need the title to the currently owned (why they asked i'm not sure), and they want a bill of sale with the name, address, phone number and vin. then they will issure a new vin, Do i put a new vin tag on the dash?
