90 Brake problem solved

Hello all, I am posting this for the information to be passed on and maybe somebody else will benefit. I have a 90 w250 with a getrag and 4 wheel drive. It has had many of the brake maladies that I have read about on this forum. The worst being no brakes at all and very hard and stiff, inefficient braking.

To make a long story short, I went through the whole system once, including a rebuilt rwal modulator valve. At that time I did not replace the proportioning valve on the advice of no fewer than 3 "experts", most saying " I have x number of years working on these and I have never replaced 1".

Well, after having the same problem I decided to replace the proportioning valve and if that didn't work, I was going to chuck the whole antilock system and put disc brakes in the back ( which I will probably do anyway). Fortunately it worked, the brakes work as new. I found a new mopar valve

here http://wermopar.com/?gclid=CNH5zITpuJwCFR0SagodLicloA

Please forgive me if this is common knowledge, but their prices are considerably lower that any place I could find. Thanks for all the info on this forum, I could not have figured it out without it...Mark

Did your brakes pull one way like none other?

No, they didn't pull, the brakes light and the Antilock lights would come on and I would have no brakes at all. That led me to replace the dump valve, but that didn't solve the problem. I believe that the proportioning valve was stuck and most of my braking was coming from the rear. I read somewhere on this forum a thread that talked about recentering the valve, but I couldn't find it again.

The valve was 135 dollars, less than the dump valve was. I am not sure how this affected the rwal system, but it did...Mark
