This was my first time to get it out on the highway and run it to see what its got. I couldnt go on long trips this past week because of the leaking tranny cooler. Anyway, i kept my foot in it to see where its topping out, 75mph. The rest of the time i was easy on it and kept it at about 62-65mph. The whole trip was 75 miles and it used just under an 1/8th tank.
I know its not enough to get an accurate mpg reading, but i can tell its got to be at least 20mpg. Something my Silverado and Blazer only can dream about. My Saturn isnt that far ahead with 37mpg.

Sounds about right, just dont trust the guage when your real low, might cost you. My 93 would go a long ways when the low fuel light came on, seemed to have about 7 gals left. The thing is on yours is the fuel cools and lubes the IP so the lower it is the hotter the fuel from recirc thru the pump. Probably not much but its so. Is that the $500 truck in the pics? There was one here some time ago, 92? 4x4 190K beat to sheet in and out, dents, rust, filthy. it went in 2 weeks for $5995.00 You got a deal, send er my way, I miss my first gen.
did you adjust the star wheel? full fuel?

The star is maxed, but i havent touched the full fuel yet. I have to move the throttle bracket to get to the full fuel right? I did grind down the plunger thing that goes through the star wheel. Not too sure how much it helped though. How much will i gain by going 1-1.5 turns on the full fuel?
youll gain some seat of the pants and some off the line power. you do not need to remove teh throtle assembly to get at it though, i used an "s" shaped wrench for the lock nut and a skinny flat head screw driver.

Dont trust the gauge. I have 2 1992s, the gauges work different on both trucks.
One will stay high for a long time and the other will drop sooner. They both get about the same milage. One has about 8 gallons left when the low fuel light comes on and the other has about 6.
Go figure.
Enjoy that Cummins it is a nice unit.

The afc and starwheel will get you pre boost fuel and a bunch of smoke which is a waste of fuel. The full fuel will make the most seat of the pants feel. If I remember on my 93 I was able to get at the lock nut with a 10mm small openend and the head of the screw with a bunch of extensions on a nut driver and a 8mm? socket. a wobble or universal would help. You can go a ways on it but 1.5 to start would be enough. You can get to the point wher you can get a run away motor. If you start feeling like it wount idol down from some throttle youve gone to far. also this will up your idle speed. Youll need to lower it back to 850 in drive with air if any on. Best way is to use a small punch to loosen the locknut then a real skinny screwdriver to turn it back out. Doing these things might get you into the danger zone EGT wise, you outta get a pyro for peice of mind specially if you towin or workin her hard.

No real towing here. I MAY use it at a later date to tow my drag truck, but no time soon. For the most part now its just my daily driver/beater. I want to get the power up to a respectable level with free mods and tweeking, then i will start spending money on turbo upgrades, pyro, IC, injectors, and 4" turbo back.
I did just over 2 turns on the and it idled BAD. I backed it off a little at a time till it idled steady and strong. It has better throttle responce and a little better top end. The idle is a little higher, but i will get it adjusted down as soon as it stops raining.
Now with the mods I've done its way better than it was stock. AFC is maxed, i ground the AFC cone thing some to let the fuel pin go further, about 2 turns on the fuel, and adjusted the gov stop some for some more throttle. At this point i may make a pyro my next buy, but that 16cm housing is tempting.
Finnaly though, when i hammer it from a stop it will spin the tires and let out a small poof of smoke. It only lasts a half second but its getting there.

I bet your right. I will probibly make my next 2 changes a pyro and intercooler. I know I'm missing alot of power just because of the hot air. Do you by any chance know a site for OEM replacement parts so i can look up a 91-93 stock intercooler?
You might check E-bay. I have been told that a 94-02 intercooler will bolt up to our first gens. they are a little bigger. I have an 03 unit, it is huge, I still have not tryed to adapt it yet. Good luck
