727 advice/questions
Yesterday driving home my transmission started slipping. When I got to the stoplight I went to take off, then nothing. Truck just revved and didn't even attempt to move. I shut the truck down. When I started it back up I put it in gear and it drove enough to get it off the road. Then it wouldn't move again. Shut it down and same thing again, moved enough to get it on the trailer then again nothing. Drivetrain is a 90 2wd 727 automatic. Engine has 306,000 miles on it and I can only assume trans has the same with no rebuild. Fluid is good. I changed the fluid, filter, and adjusted bands and shift points like in the sticky less than a 1000 miles ago. Probably due for a rebuild, but is there any thing else I can check or do before I bite the bullet and have it rebuilt? Thanks, andrew

Did it make any noise? The reason I ask, is the flex plates on these fail with some regularity.

do you have reverse??? if you lost all gears suspect a flexplate, torque converter, pump. If you have reverse probably not the pump or anything in front, from there i'd drop the pan and see what kind of trash is in there if any, get a set of gauges and start checking pressures. could check pressures before you drop the pan also.

Didn't make any noise. It will go in reverse and drive after I shut it down then start it back up. If I start it up and shift into reverse it will move. Shift into drive and nothing. Shut off then start it up and put it in drive it will move. Put in reverse and nothing?

Find a good trans shop and have it rebuilt....and take your time!! The 727 isn't rocket science, but a good trans shop is worth its weight in gold!

What is a good A727 performance kit to use to rebuild a trans that will hold 350 flywheel hp and which converter ? 2wd light towing and 3.07 gears...thanks....
