6.2 cummins transmission clutch plate

I'm trying to find a new clutch plate for my tranny. 1986 chevy 1 ton step van. I've put 3 chinese Napa ones in the past 5 weeks. I get about 500 miles out of them. The springs keep breaking. I'm not sure what's wrong, I'm blaming the cheap Chinese springs. Any help?

Napa honors the replacement gaurantee, but it's been a real PITA to get them to refund. After 3 of them they can keep my money, I'm never buying another major part from China. Thanks a lot.

Cummins 4bt is the engine. I think it's mated up with a 6.2 chevy tranny. I'm not sure how they did it, but I'm pretty sure it's a GM tranny. It's my dad's truck. I've got a 97 3500, just thought I'd get on here and see.

ANyway , wondering if anyone has had the same problems form the chinese plates.

From: Lingleville TX but active duty Air Force all over the world currently
That would be a TH400 tranny. They put em behind the 3.9 and 3.3's if I remember correctly. Almost every bread van Ive seen had a 400 behind the Cummins.

Those trannys ROB alot of POWER.

Your transmission is most likely a GM SM465. It came with a 12" clutch that was also used with the GM 6.2 diesel and 454 big block Chevy. NAPA has had recent problems with their clutch sets. The local NAPA store told me that they had a LUK clutch setup put in their own store truck because of their own brand of clutch failures.

Stepvan parts are available from:
http://www.uptimeparts.com/Portals/0...%20Catalog.pdf which includes parts for the Cummins engine retrofit stepvans.
and also: www.stepvanparts.com

Information on 4BT's and how they were adapted into the stepvan chassis using the GM SM465 and other transmissions is available at www.4btswaps.com
