518 trans quits when warm
Is it a clutch slipping or shifting late? Does it slip in all gears?
I know when the solenoids heat up if they are bad they short out. Your valves might only engage half way/stick.
Could be bad seals maybe? Losing pressure as they heat up?

I haven't driven it, but in the driveway and onto a trailer and it felt ok. PO states it quits after driving a few minutes. I had a gasser that ran perfect for 15 or 20 mins then would start to slip and grab, slip then grab and shudder (like it was starved for fluid) in forward or reverse trying to move up my hilly driveway. This sounds like a similar issue. Works ok, then doesn't move or does so intermittently. It will be a few days before I get the truck home to test it, just trying to gather some ideas on the repairs needed.
hm, Maybe its ur over drive popping in and out? also maybe gunk could be poppin in and out of the filters/gaps and restricting the flow? Bad Torque converter/lock up?
I'm no expert by any meants but im trying to toss out some things i think could be wrong, hard to tell if i havnt driven it.

I would say that all of the clutches are in the pan. When it gets warm it sucks up the friction material in the pan up into the filter. When this happens it does not get enough fluid and slips. Pull the pan and look.
Ok will do and let ya know. This will be my first time rebuilding an auto trans. The truck was used by a young kid snow plowing so it has been abused. What types of damage does constant back and forth do, especially if you shuttle the trans without waiting for it to engage F to R, and vice versa? My guess is you'll say burning clutches.

I wouldn't be surprised if the pump was shot too. Damage wise you might see something in the rear band area broken, I've seen the rear band servo pistons break.
Like Badme said, there's a good chance the pan is full of clutch material and its plugging the filter up.

If you have it apart look at the planetary gears close, and the inside of the drums where the clutch and steel ride. These wear a lot when abused. Also make sure you do the overdrive assembly and put in new torrington bearings in the over drive. Don't forget the shift kit.
