frame lengths?

hey guys, whats the difference in fram lengths between a regular cab long bed truck, and the extended cab long bed trucks? (not the crew cabs). i am wondering, because i would like to make my truck an extended cab short bed if this is possible. does anyone know if this is possible?

According to my 91 sales brochure, the reg cab long bed has a overall length of 212.9" and a wheelbase of 131". The club cab short bed (available on a D150 only, in case you are wondering) has an overall length of 210.9" and a wheelbase of 133".

Ok, thanks. maybe ill put a nice flat bed on the back of it. does anyone know if the body mounts will line up for this swap. i am thinking maybe an extended cab with a flat bed on it? any thoughts on this?

Here's a chart of all the wheel bases



You will have to install new rear cab mounts to mount the ClubCab. They are further down the chassis. Should be holes already in the frame for them. A triagular patern just past the kick up

OK, thanks. would the mount that the cab would bolt on be the bed mount that is closest to the cab?

I saw some one do what you are attempting and the wheel openings ( the whole bed) will be further forward by that 2 inches. It is slightly noticable if you were using the short bed. They put the bed where it should be for proper gap where it met the cab, so the wheel openings had the wheel off center to the rear bumpper. Then there was a gap between the bumper and the end of the bed. I know it was a reg chassis converted to club? or crew? shortbed but now Im unsure.Good luck, take some pics for us.

Ok, im going to do it, but i think im going to use a flatbed with a headache rack. can anyone tell me the length of the extended cab? Im trying to figure out the bed lengths.

There is a hump in the fuel tank that the cab won't clear so you'll have to get a fuel tank from a short bed truck or modify your existing one

I've seen this conversioon doen before, and the way this dude got around the fuel tank issue was to put on a body lift.

That is good to know! I guess I always assumed that the frames were too different to pull that off. I would LOVE to have an extended cab, and I already have a steel flat bed that could be shortened.

No, The belly of the Crew frame is longer.

If you look at the frame diagram above in posting #12 pay particular attention to the area directly under where it is labeled "this area is longer on a crew cab"
Whenever you move the rear cab mounts rearward you end up with a rise area that will contact the cab floor. You need to section & clearance that contact area out of the cab floor that extends toward the rear of the cab and build a rectangular tunnel in the floor to reseal the cab floor. As I recall there is also a small issue where the club cab's frame is a few inches longer which moves the bumper a tad rearward leaving a small gap between the rear of the bed and the bumper.

You either have to clearance the floor boards or the frame, if you dont want to raise the body. (3" body lift will allow you to install a Crew cab on a Reg cab frame with out any mods) A Club cab frame is the same in the "Belly" area as a reg cab but is longer from the rear cab mounts back. A Club cab floor is similar in contous as a Reg cab only longer behind the seat. A Crew cab floor does not rise until under the rear seat ( same contour as the rise under the front seat on a reg/club cab.)
