Advice duly noted! I guess if I really need more fuel I could get a little bigger injectors and accomplish the same thing. Thanks Dave, thank a lot for your help. That goes for the rest of you, thanks. I'm getting up the nerve to tackle the spring myself. I've read Den's instructions over and over and looked at the pictures and I think it should go well.

Brad, this doesn't mean you are limited to injectors as your only means of adding fuel. You can hack on the fuel eccentric (aka AFC cone/power pin) all you want. As long as you set the star wheel at the top and back out the smoke screw before emissions testing, it will snap test just fine because the fuel pin will stay on the big end of the fuel eccentric. The Old Smoky pin is worth a solid 25 HP, a home ground one could get you close to that but it would have to be awful thin. 15 HP is a more realistic goal for a home ground pin.

 

So how much is the old smokey fuel pin?

Thanks Wanna. My truck returns to idle perfectly and never has shown signs of runnaway. Maybe my list pump is weak or something.

I understand your advice on how to adjust the star wheel. I have seen references to Grinding down the washer under the spring. What does this do and should I do it?

 

It lets the cone go down further, so the pin can travel out further, I believe. Be carefull pulling that fuel pin out, I lost mine when I took it apart once with out knowing it, I didn't really notice any difference though with out it.

 

besides Piers, where else is there a good supplier for the 3200 spring?

I ordered my spring from Piers this morning. Cant wait to rip into the pump and add more fuel. I am waiting for a guy at piers to e-mail me back so i can order a pyro and 60psi boost gauge too.

 

Mark- There's a washer under the diaphragm. If you look at the wear pattern on the fuel eccentric you will see that the washer is too thick. You don't get full use of the eccentric with the stock washer.

Brad- Any Bosch pump shop can get you the spring if you give them the part number.

sand the washer down some, that what i did , so the cone can go all the way down

 

Went to Ace Hardware and got a #9 0-ring. It is just right for pin to hit max depth.

 

Flyzlo, what size in " is a "9 o-ring? I can't find the #9 designation on their web site, only inches. Also, do you use this ring by itself?

 

Someone earlier posted the spring part number. Here's the problem: I call a certified bosch diesel shop and they said that was a valid number butttttttttttttt......it doesn't tell them what that part number does!!!!! In other words, it's a spring but doesn't give the rpm range or anything else. I hate to be ordering blind like that but I went down there and saw that bosch doesn't tell what the rpm range is. Weird but true.
