2wd frame/ 4wd frame
 

Hey everybody, got what is one question may turn into 100... I've got a 93 w250 ext cab and it is 4x4.. BUT has frame rot.. I've thought about patching but plan to haul a horse trailer maybe even a toy hauler some day soo, not my go to.. but there us a 2x4 frame for sale with ZERO rot... what would need done to through my 4x4 drivetrain onto that frame??

Move this where it will get more attention.

It can be done relatively easily by transferring the crossmember.

I would not use the word easy, straightforward, maybe, but it is not a easy swap.
The 2wd crossmember is welded in. Lots of grinding, cutting, measuring, drilling, mounting, ETC.

I would find the correct frame for it if you had the choice.

I know where there is a '92 rust free 4x4 ex cab long bed frame...

Thank you both, and to be honest I have no idea how "move" this or really how to navigate this forum yet. But that thread that was just shared to me is perfect. And Oliver I may have to check out this 92 ext frame you know of. This ones in NC I'm in Ohio so I'll already be traveling. He wants $300 with leaf

$300 is a good price IF you needed a 2wd frame.

Check out Mark's 2wd to 4x4 swap thread and see if saving $ is worth all the work.
I bet Mark has 100s of hours into his 4x4 swap...what is your time worth?
He went over the top on a bunch of things "while he was there", so it could be done faster and cheaper.

If the rust is localized on the W250... like aft of the cab somewhere... a cut & splice could save you some work.

This is very true and I prefer the cut and splice method myself.
The big problem I see is he has the 8 inch thick frame which is usually only found on the diesel '92/'93 Ex-cab long bed diesel frames.
Which means you will need to find the most sought after 4x4 frame in great shape and cut it in half.
Which at that point, you could use it whole.

Most of the rusty 1st gen frames are worse from the cab back, the front is usually pretty solid.

That is not my experience.
The '93 LE W-250 4x4 auto 12V I am working on tonight in the shop has the much more common 7 inch frame.

I forgot to add... I have 7" frames on two 70's 1tons - both gas of course.

This has been my experience as well.
