2nd gen tail pipe on a 1st gen?

2nd gen tail pipe on a 1st gen?
I buddy of mine has a 4" exhaust for a 2nd gen that I can get really cheap. If I bought a 4" downpipe from stan's or rip, could I make the 2nd gen 4" kit work the rest of the way? How much fabbing would it take?

I have from about 1 foot in front of the muffler to the tailpipe from a second gen on mine. It is a 4" with a 5" tip
It does fit, BUT it is REAL close to the rear shock,
I mean, REAL close , when I have a decent amout of weight in the bed it hits the shock a little. I used a little wire to hold it closer to the frame for more clearence.
