2nd gen auto in 1st gen... Is it worth it?

I was just wondering who has actually done the transmission swap to a newer 47RH out of a 1994 or later truck. Since it is getting cold again, I am rediscovering (I tend to forget this fact every spring) how much power I loose through the transmission, and I was wondering if the upgrade makes the much difference and is worth it.

Thanks in advance!

After doing one, I'd say its worth it if your going to be keeping the truck for a while.

I did a nice write up on what is needed to do a swap. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=114702

Yeah, I read your right up and it was seeing how easy it actually was that I have been thinking about it. Last time I looked into it somebody (from a transmission shop) told me there was no way they would interchange. Did you notice a difference in power or anything when you did it? Or was it mainly the better and more positive overdrive?
Thank you so much.

Your notice that the power that you have will actually get to the wheels, of course stock torque converters suck, but we all know that and know how to remedy it.

With a stock valve body you get 3rd and 4th gear lockup, once its locked in 4th you have to unlock to get it back to 3rd.

With my Goerend valve body I can lock in any forward gear and downshift/upshift through them locked if you want to. Very handy when pull a trailer and shifting from 4th to 3rd on the highway to slowdown or pull a hill.

Maybe 92diesel will comment, he did get to take a ride in it at Fall Brawl on saturday.
