2 Piece Flexplate option, LOL

So I broke the center out of the flaex plate Sunday, (actually it was kinda through out the week I just thought it was the exhaust rattely against the cross member). The junkyard has one on a 90 Dodge cummins. THe Price is $75. Is that fair. How hard is it going to be to change out. Going tomorrow so I need help fast.

Not much fun at all. I always hate the converter bolts the most. Do you have a hoist and trans jack? If not, don't let that NP205 transfer case fall on your chest. It's a killer.

You can buy a brand new one from cummins for 93 bucks.

Yes all the 2nd gen flexplates will fit the first gen. Timb has done it.

I just did mine a few weeks ago. Not too bad of a job just watch starting the crankshaft bolts. Here is a thread that tells what all I had to take off. flexplate thread

Good luck it isn't a bad job as long as you have a decent place to work.

Just a bit of advise. go down to the hardware store and ge a couple of 3/8 bolts 6" long.when you get your bell housing bolts out, screw them into two of the holes , one on each side of the bell housing. this will hold up the front of the trannie. and the jack will hold up the rear.then when you are done, you just slide it back forward. it realy helps a lot.

Do you think this trick would work for doing a rear main seal or there wouldn't be enough room to work in there.

I will be doing my seal this spring

To tell you the truth, I have never done the rear main seal. so I cant tell you if there will be enough room or not.I do know that Mark Smith from a few posts back who is my nephew has some pretty big arms, and he was able to help me change out the flex plate using this method.we didnt even undo the oil lines from the trans. or the exhaust.didnt even undo the front drive line, just let it slip out of the splines when we pulled it back, and slipped it back in when puting the trans back in.I hope this helps someone out.
