2.5" rear lift

When I bought my truck I noticed, like some of the other 4*4’s, it sat low in the rear. I found a kit at a local 4*4 shop that was a perfect fit. It’s contained bigger blocks for the rear with longer u bolts. I had the old bolts cut and replaced the factory 2.5” blocks with the new 5”. The guy at the shop had never sold the blocks for a dodge before and wasn’t sure if there would be a vibration from the shortened drive shaft but It seems just fine. My truck now sits just a bit higher in the rear. I think it looks allot better.

Blocks aren't the best way to go - springs would be better. Blocks are a whole bunch cheaper tho. FWIW my '93 came from Mother Mopar with big ol' hangin' blocks.
Chris

Re:2.5" rear lift

just like the BRICK said blocks r not the best. i have a 83 4x4 that had the blocks on there granted it has 8 inch suspesion lift but evertime u took of u could feel the rear end move after a few months of driving all the time the blocks had moved 2inches and was ready to fall out so i went to a skyjacker spring very very nice! rear end doesnt move now.

Re:2.5" rear lift

Some years ago I was behind a severely lifted Toyleta with big blocks in city traffic. Everytime he took off that pinion would rotate drastically up towards the bed - kinda hard on u-joints!

Re:2.5" rear lift

I think the factory springs on the CTD are stiff enuf where it might not be as much of an issue. It hasn't been a problem on my truck yet and I do have a heavy right foot.

Re:2.5" rear lift

I thought that the later trucks ('92 or '93) had taller blocks from the factory. I have been idly planning on trying to get a set of blocks as tall as the later models . . . If it was good enough for the factory, I figure it is good enough for me, at least in this instance.

Alec

Re:2.5" rear lift

Well I have now talked to 2 different people with 5" blocks and they have had no problems. Both have over 80000mi with the switch. Hope I have the same success!

Re:2.5" rear lift

One of the major concerns when running tall blocks is also the leverage placed on the entire assembly with reguards lateral movement. the possibility of the block rolling out. CTDs are able to haul big loads adding to the stress. this is why blocks are illegal in the front of a vehicle, when hard cornering takes place the potential to collaps is present. I have yet to see this happen but if quality U bolts etc are not used????. You can fabricate or purchase a Kicker type set up to slow the axle roll under hard pedal use. but for the lateral movement a panhard type rod would be necessary.
Good luck.
