1st gen Alcoa Wheels on Second Gen?
This may sound a bit backward but here goes... my beloved 93 D350 1 ton
2WD dually got wrecked:(, and I'm considering moving into the next generation, 94-2002. I was wondering if my nice Alcoa wheels will fit onto one of these trucks, as long as I stick with a 1 ton dually, and stay with a 2 WD truck? Also, anything to watch out for on the next generation? Weak points, trouble spots, etc? Any assistance greatly appreciated, Alan |
Not 100% sure, but I don't see why they wouldn't. Bolt pattern is the same.

I would assume the 1st gen wheels would have large holes to accomodate the 5/8" studs. I'm not sure what wheel nuts one would want to use to accomodate the difference there, considering the 9/16" studs on the 2nd gen. Also be aware the 2nd gen is designed to use the hub to center the wheel, while the 1st gen needed to be manually centered before being torqued down.

Our first gen dually's utilize 5/8" studs. I have Alcoa's on my dually and they actually seem to be hub- and lug-centric.
However, as torquefan said, the 2nd gen will have 9/16" studs. I'm not sure if 5/8" studs would fit in the 2nd gen hubs or if they would have to be drilled in order for them to fit. If so, I don't imagine it would be that hard to do. If it seems more hassle than it's worth, I know somebody on here who's eager to get his hands on a set of Alcoa's. His user name is "freight train." I believe he is in West Virginia though but would probably be willing to work something out. |
I think it's going to be more trouble than it's worth... they are probably going to go with the truck. A friend of mine is probably going to buy it from me, and use the chassis and driveline to put under a neat old 48 GMC truck he has!
He's not too keen on aluminum rims so I mentioned to him there are interested parties here. If he decides to sell them I'll do what I can to "pimp the deal"! Thanks for the help guys, wish me luck on the 97 I am going to look at tonight if it's not pouring rain! Alan |

My buddy isn't a big fan of aluminum wheels so I let him know folks are interested.. the frame and running gear of the Clacker may wind up under a really cool 48 GMC truck he has. Or maybe not.
In other news, I just bought a 1997 3500, 2 wd Cummins 5 speed, pretty nice truck for 6 grand. I'll put up pics once it's mine and here at home. I think I did all right! Alan |

If buddy Steve puts the chassis under his 48 GMC truck he will likely keep the Alcoas for the "class" factor.. but I informed him of the demand. If he decides to sell, I'll let you guys know.
Bought the 97 3500, pretty happy with it so far. Going to put new steers on it Monday, and then have it generally "tuned up" by my diesel guy. Pics up soon. Alan |
Just use the proper lugnuts for the wheel and year combo.
They are "barrel style" (mag) lugnuts. Mark. |
