1st and 2nd gen difference?
Yup...Non intercooled 1st Gens have a slightly lower compression ratio then their intercooled counterparts, and the head doesn't flow as well as the 2nd gen 12V. The injector bore is also 9mm instead of the 7 mm on the 2nd Gen 12V. Could be more I haven't come across yet.
To clear things up then:
Do you mean-
89 to early 91- 9mm inj.,lower compression than 91.5 to 93 non I/C
91.5- 93 7mm inj. I/C
94 to early 98 9mm inj.
Does your refferal to Second gen means 94-98 0r.... I/C to Non I/C 89 to 93 models? I may be confusing something here. Can someone clear this up, I thought I had it, but the injector part is unclear to me.

The title says 1st to 2nd gen. I'll assume 12 valve only.
1st gen = 89-93
2nd gen 12 valve = 94-early 98
Yes, there are differences and don't know them all.
If you want to know just the basic block and head differences I think they are very similar.
The timing cover, cam and pistons are different on p-pump trucks. Only the timing cover would prevent you from not being able to run a ve pump on one, but you can swap that too.
Other than that, most everthing else will bolt on from a first gen.

Thats what I had always seen, regarding injectors, the way it was worded was a little confusing. When referring to the 94- 98 second gen body/p-pumped engines, do they also have 7mm inj bores? And I assume that he means the p-pumped 12 valve heads flow more? I wasn't sure if he was saying second gen meaning I/C or p-pumped.I know the difference. I got it now! I read into it too much. Thanks.
Aside from some slight casting differences, all 7mm 12v heads are the same. I highly doubt a head from a 95 would net any significant gain if it were to replace the head on a 1st gen. 12v heads don't flow worth a crap, period. If you've got a good unit, spend the $$ on getting it ported.

Only the non-intercooled trucks had the 9mm injectors.
As far as the head goes yes, the 94-98 12 valves flow more but only a tiny bit..... maybe 4-5%.
I think 2nd gen 24 valve heads flows about 15-20% more than a 1st gen and a 3rd gen head flows more than that.
