Hi all,I found a 93 Dodge diesel to replace the second vehicle a 94 Ford F150 and am wondering what I should be looking for as far as problems, the truck I am looking at has 120000 miles on it and is 4X4 regular cab, truck looks good from the picture but I have not seen it up close yet,he wants $5000 for it,any info would be helpful.

Thanks

Depending on where you live, check the condition of the body evidence of accidents etc. Try to find out whether it has been used to plow snow, things like that.

The main mechanical thing to look for is to see that the tranny is in good working order. You don't need to buy a truck and then have to rebuild the tranny. The cummins power can do a tranny in around that mileage. Also, just because it appears to shift funny doesn't mean it's bad. They all have a unique shift to them. Test out a few different trucks if you get the chance.

Make sure the person didn't screw around with the electricals, as this I can personally tell you, can be a real p*** off.

Good luck, I hope you get a good one!!

Specifics as far as rust - the floors are usually the first to go. Also, if there's any rust above the windshield - pass on the truck. They rust from the inside out up there, something that looks minor is just the tip of the iceberg. Other than that, look at it like you'd look at any used truck. Expect a lot more turbo lag than your '00 CTD, that's normal and can be taken care of easily.

Having just recently purchased my truck, i would have to say the one thing that I am realy having a problem dealing with is the electrical. The PO hacked up the wiring, and it is a real PITA to try and fix....
