Tappet cover leak

I have been seeing more oil leaking in the last little while so I got under the truck and it looks to be coming from the tappet cover. I got the camera out and looked around and the leak is from the front lower corner of the cover. so the question is can I change the cover with out taking the Inj pump off . the guy at the end of the building who does truck repair told me it can be gone without taking the pump off he also told me to just buy a new one from cummins and not screw with the old one. I have always pulled the pump and I buy all parts from Cummins for my Cummins. If It can be done with the pump on I bet it will make you swear.

Maybe with the VE pump; I've never tried it with the pump installed; but it would be a major pain in the ***; and it will be hard to get all the gasket surfaces cleaned, much less get the cover out easily.

Take the pump off; its not really that difficult.
