1993 2500 diesel front brake rotors.

Hey guys, i have just bought myself a pretty nice 93 2500 diesel 4x4, I have always had a thing for them and found this one with 160,000km on it and in great shape so its in the driveway now.
Anyway in the past 3 weeks I have owned it, the speedo sensor went on me 285 bucks later and I just put some new 265,75,16s on it and some rims and when i took the tires off and seen the rotors i almost fell over, there toast, the guy put new pads on it but left the old rotors and they need to be replaced, i went to a shop today and they quoted 890 bucks to replaced pads and rotors, does that seem like a fare price, he said the rotos alone are 490 bucks, its a 4500 front end so needs the heavy duty rotors apperently and the hubs repacked as well after the job.
I am not much of a mechanic or I would try it myself but for you mechanics out there is there much to doing this job

My rotors were 43.99 each (maybe 60.00 two styles avalible and I can't rememeber what one I used) at the autozone on my 93 with the 4500 axle. They just see big truck and 4x4 and diesel so they most likely want to hold you over the coals. I can see at the dealer prices getting that high for parts and labor.

hey speedy, 490 bucks for front rotors is total bullcrap. there's defidently trying to rip you off. buy a new ones from napa or a parts store(that will almost defidently be under 100) and call around to find a reasonable repair shop and have them put them on. it'll save you a LOT of money.

I just bought the best rotors NAPA has and they were under $90.00 each. I have a couple hundred miles on them now and they are definately worth the money. Get the good Bendix pads also, semi metallic, riveted pads they cost about $50. That shop is way out of line for the job, maybe $500 if they clean and repack all the bearings with new seals, and new axle ujoints.

Semi-"on topic" questions... Does anyone make slotted rotors for 1st gen's? Will 2nd gen rotors fit?

Anyone know which casting numbers a 93 W250 5Spd uses? Is there any appreciable difference in the two different rotors sold?
