1992 Gas stick Converting to 91 Diesel
1992 Gas stick Converting to 91 Diesel
Hi all,
I currently thinking about converting a 92 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 5 speed Nv4500 and 241 t-cast
I will admit I am a bit of a novice on the whole Diesel thing so pardon me if I ask something redundent
the donor I am considering is a 91 non-ic motor auto
what type of parts do I need, can I use a later Bellhousing or do I need a aftermarket
can I use the auto adaptor plate or do I need a new or use one from a early or 2nd gen stick?
will I need to swap out core supports
can I later add a Intercooler or will I need to swap out radiators and later style core support
has anyone done this swap before or a good article on this
Regards,
Jim

Well, The gasser trannies have a different bell housing. 1st and 2nd gen housings are different as well.
If you are staying non-i/c, the core support won't matter as long as the radiator will handle the load of cooling the Cummins. There is a write-up in the sticky about adding a 2nd gen intercooler to a non-i/c core support.
plenty of other stuff to play with during a swap to. Check out the conversion sections and read up on the crew-cab conversions. Lots of good stuff there that is pertinent to your project.

Well I have got my donor and still want a list of items I need to buy
was looking a High Impact kits but they seem to lost their technical person so have no idea on what I wa asking which does not install alot of confidence on buying a conversion kit like this.
first has anyone dealt with High impact and are they normally ok to deal with or is there a better source?
Do I need to upgrade my Gas NV4500 input and bearing Retainer to a Diesel parts and if so who has the most reasonable prices for this
Who has the best conversion kit or list of factory parts I need to use with my 91 engine to get it converted with the least amount of hassle
Thanks,
Jim
