1990 wont start up
so i was on my way to the gas station, but i had to stop at the bank first. low fuel light had been on for a bit, but i wasnt too worried. i shut the truck off at the bank. when i came back out to start it, it started and ran for a few seconds, then died. i figured its out of gas. i had AAA come and give me some diesel, pulled up the bleeder on the filter, still no start. i had it towed to my college room where i dont have very many tools. any help ASAP would be appreciated. thanks guys
What do you mean you pulled up the bleeder? The bleeder threads into a banjo bolt and then you have to manually pump the lift pump till you get fuel. Then you may also need to bleed the injectors.
The pull up thing on the bottom of the filter is the water drain. It doesn't bleed any air off.
There's a small plug in the banjo bolt on the top of the fuel filter/fuel heater assembly. You loosen that and then pump the lever on the fuel pump till you get clear fuel out of it with no air. The lever is in a park position when not in use. The pumping action is at the other end of the stroke. Don't forget to park it when you're done with it.
After you've gotten the air out of the fuel filter, you can try to start it. If it won't start then you have to bleed the injectors.
That's 'nother story. If you've cranked the heck out of it trying to start it when out of fuel, you might as well plan on it.
When you get it running again you will thoroughly understand why you never run a diesel out of fuel.

Tired battery or starter.
Oil diluted by fuel.
