Man that welding/torch cart is SLICK! I might be stealing some of that design for my own set-up! ;)

Man that chassis is sure one sexy piece of equipment now!

It will be much better with a first gen on top 👌 Then I can feel like I actually belong on this forum! 😂

Thanks man! My favourite thing is the swivel casters on all four corners, easy to maneuver when you can push it in any direction. Also, no noisy bottles since I used bent rod with a bolt welded on the end to secure it tight to the frame. Some day I’ll get around to paining it.

Rotisserie started, just have to stretch the bottom and brace, then make the cab mounts.

Was not anticipating the cab to sit that much higher than a stock Ford cab, looks like my plan of tucking the tires in as much as I can is out the window. Also, with my modifications to how the engine is mounted, 5" back from stock, it makes the front tires stick out a little further forward than I was wanting, and where the body sits now is just enough room to clear the engine. So I think I will push part of the firewall back 2" to make it a little less pronounced. Either way I wont be trimming the back of the fender closest to the door, which makes the trimming modification much easier.

Whats the need to mount the engine 5" rearward again? are you using a 2ndgen oil pan?

MoPowa May 8, 2022 10:18 PM

I wanted to centre the weight a little better, gives me a little more capacity for mounting a heavy bumper and running a plow, but mostly that is just a welcome outcome of mounting the body so I don't have to touch the door side inner and outer fender when I go to trim. Will only be messing with the front of the wheel wells this way. The inner fender is part of the structural integrity of these trucks, so the less I have to mess with it the better. I also lucked out with the front body mounts by setting the cab back like this, will not need to modify much.

Did a quick n dirty photoshop to show you what I mean.

gotcha. when the tire is big enough it makes sense.

Decided to keep the engine in the stock location. I was going off measurements, then today I put the engine and tranny in, and would have had to move the cab even further back then it was. Moving it to the original location will have it end up nearly the same as shown in the previous picture, but the cab about an inch more forward. So worked out well.

Sometimes there is just no way of knowing till it is in place.

Will have to make the tunnel much wider on the passenger side too. Knew I would have to redo the tunnel anyways.

Started the tunnel, tight squeeze! Will have to make the tunnel 2-3” wider on the passenger side, all the way from the firewall.

Transfer case may need some clearance too.

Anyone reading this feel like doing me a favour and measuring the distance of the #6 valve cover to the firewall? Don’t have another truck close by that I can measure for myself, and want to place this cab in relation to the engine as it comes stock.

Thanks in advance!

u2slow May 15, 2022 07:24 PM

i can tell you i normally jam a scrap 2x4 between the head and firewall to support the engine when the trans is out. it may even be a tad less that 1.5" when the trans is in there.

MoPowa May 15, 2022 08:10 PM

Good enough, thanks man!

Started working on the back cab mounts today. Covered myself in epoxy dust which was irritating, literally and figuratively, yes I wore a mask. 👍🏻

The back mounts only needed to be move back 1” and narrowed 1” on both sides. Will weld them back in sometime this weekend.

The front mounts won’t be so easy, as they land right in the spot on the frame the radius arm bracket is. There should just barely be enough room not to interfere with that bracket, but will have to redesign the mount a bit.
