1974 d300 dually cummins/4x4 conversion completed!

well its been a couple months of long days and the 1974 d300 is alive. i didnt think it would be so emotionally painful to take these girls apart but it was! I picked up this beautiful 74 dually for dirt cheap and decided to build one out of the 2 using my 1993 cummins as the doner. the 93 is a 5 speed 4x4, don't let the pictures fool you, she was rough around the edges from the previos original owner, the 600,0000kms takes its toll too. here it is start to finish. the truck still needs the windshield installed and rear glass aswell as the front dually spacers put on for the front dually wheels. that will be tomorrows job. here she is... start to finish. I slacked a bit on the pictures as far as building the custom rad support by cutting and welding the ends off for the headlight buckets. throw any questions down and ill reply! looking into a set of 35-36 tires for her to look better aswell.

So is it actually a W300 now or does it just have a 4x4 stance?

looks like he just took the fender, box, doors, rad support and grille off the 74 and bolted them onto the 93 frame and cab so technically it would still be a w350 with 300 badges.

no need to slam me on it.. it wasn't a 350 to begin with and the only thing that's 93 body wise is the cab. it's now a 74 with 93 running gear. so that would make it a d300 x4x cummins. it's custom. like it or don't lol.

I was kinda confused at first. I went through the pictures thinking you were turning the '74 into a 4wd. I eventually caught on and figured out that you ultimately converted the '93 to a dually and with the '74 front clip. Am I right? That's a lot easier than putting a solid front axle under a 2wd frame! Also, kinda strange that the '74 rear fenders don't have the clearance lights in them. They must have been replaced at some point in its life.

Good work. It looks good even without the matching dually wheel in the front!

No Need to slam it.. It wasnt a 350 to begin with, and to my knowledge they didnt make a 1974 dually 4x4? This is a conversion and totally custom, which would make it a custom d300. Makes no sence putting 93 350 badges on it. the body is all 74 except for the cab and chassis.

I figured that back then they didn't have markers on the flares. The truck was original when I got it and there's no sign of marker lights no wiring for them or anything. I'm in debate to put them on but it might look weird with the rear light on the side of the box. What's your opinion? I personally like the markers on the flares so I might put them on in the near future

Well, you've already (probably) cut a hole for the light in the rear of the bed itself but I suppose you could always weld it up if you decide to put some in the fenders.

I personally like them in the fenders because they designate the true overall width of the truck for other drivers. Even though, they probably don't pay that much attention anyhow . And, in most states, would be legal that way.
