14 cm
I would not bother with a 14 cm non-gated housing. If you want quick spooling on the cheap, get a used 12 cm wastegated housing. Anything smaller than the 16 cm is really too small to run without a wastegate.
I have one that Im not using. It spooled nice but was restrictive on the top end. I suppose it would be OK to run this housing if you did not have the governor spring and wanted to keep your RPM mainly under 2000.
does it raise exhaust temp on top end i have 18.5 housing i normal never go above 75 on the freeway i have an 4 speed auto dont know how high rpm is at that speed once i went to 95 trying out exhaust temp start to 95 i could only get to 1050 pre turbo i could get a 12 cm housing but i have see what that does to the temp on a 96 dodge with stock inj. #10 plate also are you looking to get rid of the housing
At high rpm/boost the non-gated 14 will be worse than the gated 12 cm. The 12 cm works very well with stock injectors on an intercooled truck. You could not have paid me enough for mine when I still had stock injectors. EGT never got over 1k, boost was 30 psi.
Was the wastegate hooked up on that '96? A p-pump gives a bunch more fuel at high RPM than a VE, too.
If frostie will cut you a good deal on his 14, it's worth trying. Just be aware that you will outgrow it the instant you add injectors.

I'm running a 12cm W/G housing that has the W/G welded shut. I hit 32# boost when towing or pulling a hill. Compared to the 16cm that was on before, my exhaust temps are MUCH lower and it spools WAY faster. I have a 3000RPM Govspring but rarely rev past 2500. It is a bit more restrictive on the top end when towing but I only tow 6 times a year so I'm ok with it. I have been thinking that a non-waste gated 14cm might be just right for me though. Atleast untill I get upgraded injectors and then the 16cm will probably go back on. I'm also at high altitudes and have talked to others who have said that a 12cm works good for them at high altitudes.

Hmmm, interesting I actaully found quite a drop in EGTs when I went from the 16 to 12. But I'm still running stock injectors.
I think I'll hang on to my 16cm for now as I think I'll need it if I ever get around to upgrading the injectors.

I actually dropped egt's going from the 16 to the 12 also. Especially at lower rpm's. With the bosch 190's I still only push 32psi of boost with the wastegate unhooked. My egt's are less than 1200. I have a MBC hooked up and i'm going to try limiting boost to just above where I get a lot of smoke and higher egts. Then I won't be wasting boost.
I think for working trucks the 12 cm wastegated housing is good on 5 speed trucks, and the 16 cm is good on automatics. The 12 cm spools up nice and quick to help you get the load moving and keep the EGT down at low RPM. On the automatics, the TC will not load the engine at low RPM, so the "free breathing" aspects of the 16 cm housing really shine.
For play trucks it's all about where you want to make the power.

frostie, I might be interested in your 14 cm housing if keithplacervill isn't. I'm also in Colorado, Golden. How did it work for you, what are you running now? I just got my truck back from having the new georend TC installed and I need to find some more boost. One thing about that old sloppy TC is it sure slipped nice and built about 25 psi of boost. Running up I-70 the new one binds up by about 2000 rpm and I just cant seem to spin the turbo and build any more power/boost than 20 psi. I turned up the fuel but I just get heat without building any more boost. Around town its really bad because the TC binds up so early, I have huge turbo lag. I pour on the black smoke, that just wait. I would think with our thin air a 14 cm would perform more like a bigger housing for the rest of the country.
I'm going to have to disagree on everyone poopooing the NWG 14. I've had one on now for almost 2 years. Running 185s, a few pump mods and some porting, I can push 40 psig and EGTs never get over 1350 and I'm going WAY too fast for any road by then. That is only about 50 degrees warmer than I would see with my 16.
I really like mine but YMMV.

40 psi, that's what I'm talking about. Now I really want to try a smaller housing, that's twice the boost I can get from my turbo by the time I reach 1300. I figure as cheap as the 12 cm wastegated housing are I could try both the 12 and the 14 NWG and see what happens. It would be cool to see exactly what happens with each, pick the best one, sell the rest. BTW anyone know what a used H1C/18.5 is worth, I want to sell my original turbo? Thanks.

no waste gate the cheapest is best a piece of metal is a piece metal thanks for replys keith
