Lost 5th gear....what now?

Lost 5th gear....what now?

So last night I am driving home from a friends house and I lost 5th gear in my NV4500. I read somewhere there is an easy fix...anyone have any info they can point me to? Thanks

Do a search here using the term , 5th gear nut , one of the weak points of these trucks , you should find an upgrade fix for the problum , not simple but also not a real big problum , especaly if your truck is a 2x4 .

hope that helps also someone in help section has been helped with same problem also if you leave tranny in remember its important to use 12 point socket on tail shaft housing bolts don't want to strip them like I did.

Well, from what I have seen it looks like the quickest and easiest fix is to get the updated shaft and fifth gear from Standard trans. Has anyone here done this upgrade? How long does it take and how hard is it?
