Why would a mechanic NEED to pull out the Camshaft ??

Well, all is GOOD now.
We ended up making a decent deal. The head gasket repair was a $1400 job of which they only requested $300 from us.
Considering all the time/trouble/cost that would have been involved in paying for an Attorney/Court Cost/Time lost blah, blah, blah.... We negotiated a new 30 warranty on top of it all and forked over the $300.
The treated us very well and the truck is running MUCH better than it did before!
All's well that end's well!
Now......just HOPE the heck the truck holds up!!
I'll post pics soon and let you'all see why I stuck with it!

Glad you got resolution and piece of mind 300 beans seems real fair, considering that only covers about 4 hours of labor and no parts! Send your oil samples for testing at change intervals so you'll have a paper trail should, heaven forbid, problems arise again. Happy driving!

Good suggestion on the oil analysis. I'll do that.

Well......Let's just say the WORST IS OVER WITH!
The truck is running very well. MUCH better than when I first drove it. Makes me think the head gasket "may" have been bad the whole time. Who knows.... ??
Was driving around earlier and noticed the ALT gauge showing discharge. WAY back in this saga, the dealership had already installed a NEW alternator.
Got it back home and popped the hood. Found out the mechanic FORGOT to install a small nut on one of the ALT wires as it was just flopping around.
I installed another nut and THAT problem is now fixed.

Actually, it STILL does leak a small amount of oil. But not out of the front of the engine. I "think" it's coming from the oil pan gasket.
I am taking it back . They are going to need to reflush the cooling system. I don't think they cleaned it out good enough.
