Whew...KDP is dead

I had a leak on the timing gear cover that was getting progressivly worse so I took the plunge and bought the gasket and crank seal to fix it. While I was at it I thought I would look at the KDP and tab it while I had it all open. Glad I did. The dowel was half way out. Everything went pretty smooth except for the crank seal. That was a pain in the a**. I could not seem to get the new seal in straight in the housing. So I put the housing on without the seal in it. Left it loose on the bolts and placed the seal on the guide over the snout of the crank. Then placed the installation tool over the seal and then used the vibration dampner to press in the seal. This took a while to go but it worked. All in all it was long day but now there are no leaks and the KDP is DEAD.

It feels good to know that the KDP will not get you and the satisfaction that comes from doing the job youself is sweet. The crank seal is a pain. Easiest way to install is to chill the seal and warm the cover. This makes the job easier.
John
The hot cold thing is a great tip. Hopefully I will not need to do the crank seal again but if I do I will defineitly try that first. ;D It is a sweet feeling :) ;) :D ;D

A fridge for the seal and an oven for the steel cover.
John
