Whats the difference.

I've been wondering about the 215 pump were they only offered behind a standard? If so why not with an automatic and if used behind an auto is there anything that should be tweaked to better suit an auto versus a standard? I have one in my 91 I'm relatively happy with it's performance but was just curious.

smaller pumps were used in the autos as the 47 series of automatics were not rated to handle the extra power that the manual can. Same reason Chevy lowered the power output on the duramax when it was powering the van with a 4l80E trans vs the allison or the rare 6 speed in the pickup.

I have always wondered about the max torque specs for transmissions. I believe that in the 1st gen trucks with 160 HP/400 TQ motors, the 5 speed G360 Getrag were only rated to 360 LB torque and they where already over capacity from the factory. Am I correct on that?
