What is this hose for

Looks like a bypass for the thermostat? Instead of the stat having a jiggle pin ?
Im guessing as 1st gens and my 24 dont have it . Looking to replace it and parts guy cant find it . also want to pull the plug out it goes into and put garden hose in there to back flush system when changing antifreeze .

I can't find it as a molded assy, but Rock lists it as 1/4" X 6" heater hose.

They call it a radiator bypass hose.

97 parts catalog lists it as 4746700, about 15 bucks.

Hard to tell if that is really it from the picture, but I think it is.

I believe this is for allowing the air to escape the block when filling the motor with coolant. I usually remove the plug in the top of the head above the T-stat to allow the coolant to fill the motor properly on my 1st Gen 12V, so I get no trapped air pockets in the motor. This set-up appears to do the same thing by allowing the air to get pushed into the the upper rad hose connection that is above the top of the motor.

I have one of these T-stat housings, and wondered where that little hose ran too....Thanks for the pics!

My local Napa could get the part as I had an old one with the #s on it in my parts stash.
I should be picking it up here in the next day or so.
I can post the # if you still need it then.
