Ear broken off of torque converter
1996 2500 About one week ago I heard a slapping sound in the bell housing area. So when I pulled the cover off and investigated, at least one of the ears that are welded to the torque converter is broken. The bolt through the flywheel seems to still be in the ear but I can push on the flywheel and make a crack show between the ear and the torque converter. Is this common? What caused it? I am pulling the tranny this weekend so any tricks or explanation of this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks

I hope you got a new flexplate and converter.
I don't recall reading or hearing much about broken converter mounts, but flex plates is common. That's why vendors offer heavy duty after market flex plates.
Is your truck stock or any mods?

My truck is all stock. I have pulled the transmission but have not got the new converter yet. There were actually two ears broken off the converter but nothing rolling around, everything was still attached. Any suggestions on where to get the converter other than the dealership$$$$$$$$$$.
Thanks

Get a good converter. its well worth the money. Call up Dave Goerend. He makes aftermarket converters that will stand up to the mods that you will eventually feel the burning desire to do. the Dodge TCs are trash.
