Weird Brake Problem
Hey guys
I have a 1996 truck with rock hard pedal with no brakes .
Has great vacuum over 20 lbs vac with a inline gauge hook up to the booster .
Booster has no leaks .
Has the red brake warning light come on .
Rear wheel cylinders are new and seem fine .
No fluid leaks .
The hard pedal is a sign of a bad booster but would not kick a light .
Any thoughts .
Thanks
Greg

this last weekend when I was laying on top of the valve cover changeing my fuel filter I noticed a cracked end to the vacuume hose where it connected to the booster. I chopped a inch off and used sillicone and a hot light to put it back on- my brakes dont go hard at idle anymore.
I would suspect a bad master.
If a new master doesn't fix it suspect a bad new master.
Been a lot of that going on, many people report recently going though up to four new ones before finally getting one that works.

Most pedals that are rock hard are a sure sign of a bad booster , this one holds a vacuum . The low vacuum sensor is coming on and off and is vacuum related . I holding the pedal will release the pressure on the booster then the light will flutter and come on but then goes out .
Has a solid pedal and wondering if its some how tricking the dump valve on the booster having the master cylinder locked up .
I ordered both master and booster . I'm going to take off the master and see if anything is binding up and go from there .
Update ...
Pulled the booster out , it was not as bad of a job a it looked ... looking in the vacuum booster hole I found brake fluid ... so the master must have been leaking but locking up the pedal is a first I seen .
I installed the booster last night and going to do the new master tonight and hope to have the old girl back on the road .
