water pump...Cummins or Gates?
The water pump on my '96 is leaking. Looked at pumps on Geno's and they recommend Gates or Cummins. The Cummins is more expensive, but I don't want to be doing this again in a couple of years. Is the Gates pump any good?

I put a gates on once a year. Once a year they start leaking. What I have learned to deal with.

I put a Gates on my 91.5. No problems for 8 years. Truck was destroyed in a wreck so I have no idea how long it would have lasted. Put one on my 01 about 5 yeas ago, no problems yet. They are not that hard to change once you figure out how to get them through the fan.

Thanks guys. Looks like conflicting luck with the gates pump. :)

Me too.

So is my 92 and it is about to hit 200K.

The shop I use has had great luck with the Murray pumps.
O'Reilly carries them. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b...ram-2500?pos=1 |
When the pump went out on my 01 (at around 300k) I used a Gates from Genos. It was still on there and working fine when I got rid of it at 350k miles.

I recently ordered two Gates pumps from rockauto. Only ~$40CDN.
Pump, rad, hoses, etc. all being renewed this week. |
