Vibration at speed - can't find
Looking for some help...
1996 12V 2WD extended cab w/8' bed. Automatic.
240K miles.
i'm experiencing a vibration at 40 mph and then again at 70-73, if i push pass this, it goes away, not completely but dramatically less noticeable.
tires are mediocre in quality, ~ 20K miles with plenty of tread still. wheels were just balanced, alignment is good. doesn't wander or have to fight to keep it straight. driveshaft and center carrier are solid, no wiggle to them (when I crawled underneath and shook and tried to get it to move).
so at this point, i was trying to swap tires around with my other trucks. was not successful. nothing in my driveway could swap onto my 12V.
I'm very hesitant to drop several hundred dollars on a assumption that the rubber is bad (the truck did sit for ~15 months. i did drive it every few months to start it and shake cobwebs out of it)
could it be the tires have gone bad? They are Futura Scrambler APII, load E.

Futura - that's PepBoys' tire brand, isn't it? I had some of those on my Chevy 1500.
Have you tried taking it to a good tire shop and getting the tires checked for out-of-round?
Also, check your driveshaft and see if there are any signs of missing weights.
